Political leaders in the north have had their first meeting with Rishi Sunak. The British Prime Minister travelled to Belfast last night and held informal discussions on the concerns of local MLA's unable to return to power sharing because of the DUP's insistence on changes to the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Mr Sunak continues his trip today with a visit to the Harland and Wolff shipyard. UUP leader Doug Beattie described the talks last night as a good first step.
"It was an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister for the first time here in Northern Ireland. We are starting to build relationships and so it wasn't a hard hitting meeting with the Prime Minister.
"It was more a grip and grin - a meet and greet," he added.
