Plans for six houses in Annyalla in Monaghan have been rejected by the County Council.
The development had been planned as an extension to an existing estate in the village.
Monaghan County Council rejected the planned development by Drumakelly Management Co. Ltd.
It had applied for the six semi-detached houses, which would have been built next to the existing 12 houses in the Drumakelly estate.
Associated works were also planned.
However, the local authority rejected the application on two grounds.
It said the planned private waste water treatment for the development did not meet requirements under the county's development plan.
It also said the applicant failed to demonstrate that the proposed development would not be visually obtrusive in the landscape, that it will consolidate the settlement, enhance the existing character and strengthen a sense of identity and distinctiveness for Annyalla.
