Plans for a new clubhouse at Virginia Rugby Club have been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
The development was given the go ahead by Cavan County Council in early August but it has since been appealed by Inland Fisheries Ireland.
Virginia Rugby Club had applied to demolish an existing clubroom and temporary changing room and replace them with new two storey changing facilities and a clubroom.
The project also included connections to existing sewers and other site works.
It was granted planning approval by Cavan County Council on August 3rd but it has since been appealed by Inland Fisheries Ireland.
In its submission to the Council, IFI raised concerns about the water quality of nearby Lough Ramor.
The body has previously appealed other developments in Virginia, including housing estates, due to concerns it has about the local wastewater treatment plant.
It says the plant is already at capacity and untreated waste is being discharged into Lough Ramor.
In its submission IFI says the lake's water quality is rated as 'bad' and under regulations it should have been restored to a 'good' level by the end of 2015.
A decision on the application is due to be made by the planning board by early January.
