Plans for a mast in Bawnboy in Cavan have been refused planning permission.
Eircom had applied for the 15 metre structure at its exchange in the village.
Eircom had applied for the mast and associated antennae and dishes at its exchange at Kilsob in Bawnboy.
It said it would form part of the existing telecommunications and broadband network that it operates.
A number of submissions from local residents and the Board of Management of St Aidan's National School raised concerns over the visual impact of the mast and concerns over the possible health impact they claimed it could have.
