A local councillor and school teacher has welcomed the news today surrounding a planned ban on mobile phones in secondary schools.
Minister for Education Norma Foley has said she plans to ask second-level schools to ban the use of mobile phones by students during the school day.
The minister is set to write to schools in the next week or two to give advice around mobile phone use and her desire to have a ban on mobile phones in place. Cavan County Councillor Aine Smith is welcoming those plans and hopes a blanket ban will be announced.
The Bawnboy school teacher says she has brought this issue up at county council level and something that has advocated for a long time. She highlighted that a lot of schools already have prohibited mobile phones but this will allow for a culture change for students to not have access to their phones while in school.
