A planning application has been withdrawn for a proposed quarry in west Cavan. Mannok had applied for permission to Cavan County Council for the sand and gravel quarry but, has withdrawn the application in recent days.
A community group has been formed by locals called "Ballyheady says NO to Quarry - Save Nature" to oppose it, as they claimed it would threaten a historical site and local natural habitat. Locals said the vibrations from the quarry - whether from possible blasting or the extraction of rock - would have caused the area to vibrate and drive animals away. They also believed their homes would have suffered from direct results due to the vibrations also.
The group described the news as the good day for Ballyheady which is closely located to Ballyconnell. The group admin of the Facebook page entitled "save Ballyheady, fight against the quarry" thanked everybody for their support.
