Vodafone has been refused planning permission for a development that would
have seen a nearly 20 metre high mast erected in Glaslough.
A meeting was organised in the village last month in an effort to prevent
the structure from being built.
The organisers claimed the mast would "take away from the picturesque
setting and character" of the village.
Vodafone had applied for permission to replace an existing mast at the Eir
exchange in the village with a new 19.5m structure.
In its application, it said the mast would improve phone and broadband
services in the area.
Monaghan County Council refused the application, saying "the visual impact
of the proposal, which is 6.5 metres higher and significantly bulkier than
the existing mast, would significantly outweigh any potential economic and
social benefits".
