An appeal against the construction of 145 houses in Cavan has been rejected by the higher planning authority.
The decision was published by An Bórd Pleanála in recent days. Drumlark investments Ltd applied to Cavan County Council to construct 145 residential units in total along with the provision of a crèche. The plans submitted were for 91 houses, consisting of 25 x 2bed units, 55 x 3bed units and 11 x 4bedroom homes
The provision of a total of 54 duplex apartment units consisting of 15 x 1 bed units and 39 x 2bed units were also a part of this application. Permission was granted by county planners but it was then appealed to the higher planning authority.
Residents of The Willows, Latt, located to the east of the proposed site cited a number of issues including inadequate wastewater treatment capacity and potential traffic issues.
Residents pointed out that the proposed location of the entrance will cause light pollution from vehicles to the existing opposite residences and made reference to flooding incidents in Drumgola Woods. They said that the proposed development will increase the frequency of flooding as surface water has nowhere to go.
In it's decision, An Bórd Pleanála rejected the appeal and granted permission for the development with a number of revised conditions. Conditions included that only a maximum of 14 two bed apartments would be permitted, with the remaining 25 being reduced to 1 bed units. A minimum of 10% of all car parking spaces are also required to have functioning electric charging points, with ducting on the remaining spaces to facilitate later installation of charging points.
