Cavan County Council has refused planning permission for a glamping site
close to Bailieborough.
Permission has been sought for works that would have seen the construction
of six glamping pods, alongside a service building and car parking area on a
site along the R191 Bailieborough to Moynalty Road.
The planning application said "there is a greater need now more than ever
for the proposed development as a result of the covid-19 pandemic" because
"staycations are now the preferred holiday".
However, the proposed works were deemed to "constitute a road safety hazard
by the absence of suitable pedestrian provision for the benefit of guests
entering or leaving the site".
The County Council added that the "likelihood of excessive noise and general
disturbance" would have an "unacceptable adverse impact on the established
residential amenity".
