Members of Monaghan County Council yet again expressed their "shock" and "outrage" this week over planning permission around the North South Interconnector. After legal consultation, representatives were told by Adrian Hughes, Senior planner with Monaghan County Council that an expiry date does not apply when it comes to planning permission around the North South Interconnector.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Noel Keelan said he found it "quite shocking" that planning for the controversial powerline was "indefinite." He went on to describe this as "complete abuse" of the process and as a result raised a motion that would see Monaghan County Council write a letter to Government over the matter. According to Cllr Keelan, it's as important now as ever before following the local election that Monaghan County Council reaffirms its commitment to the undergrounding of the interconnector.
