Plans for 66 apartments in a five storey apartment block in Cavan have been halted through an appeal.
Radar Investments Limited applied to Cavan County Council for the development in May. The new development is due to be located on Farnham Street in the county town. Plans submitted by Radar Investments Limited called for the construction of 66 apartments in one building. The apartments would be made up of 26 one- bed units, 32 two-beds, and 8 three-beds all with balconies or ground floor terraces. These would be all be located within a five storey apartment block. Cavan County Planners granted the application subject to 39 planning conditions however it is has now been appealed to An Bord Pleanála. A third party submission details concerns with the design of the building, calling it 'completely out of character with the area'. A concern is also highlighted surrounding the townland listed in the application. claiming there is no evidence to identify where the actual site of the development is. The detailed submission letter also claims that since the proposed apartments are also located directly across the road from a further planned development of 23 duplex units, 'traffic congestion would be seriously exacerbated in the area'. It goes on to say that planned amenity areas are nowhere near sufficient for 66 families and if they were to all use the public space at once, it would number over 200 people, and they would spill out onto the road
Finally, the submission claims that there has been a 'serious lack of judgement' in placing a children's play site adjacent to a fast flowing river liable to flooding
A decision on the appeal is expected to be made by March 19th next year.
