When construction is finished on a new nursing home at Drumbarkey near Cootehill, the facility will have a total of 96 bedrooms. Of those, 48 are described on an application lodged with Cavan County Council as being "substantially complete."
County planners have already granted permission for the additional bedrooms but, the applicant is seeking an extension of duration for the plans. However, the facility, which is partially finished, is also posted on property websites for sale.
The description of the nursing home states the first 48 bedrooms in the development are "roofed and sealed" with all works, to date, fully compliant with planning regulations and a fire cert in place. The PropertyPal website says nursing homes in the Cavan / Monaghan area demonstrate average occupancy levels of 95 per cent, with an aging demographic and a "population in excess of 20,000 within a 28km radius from the subject site."
