A planning application for Bawnboy Garda Station is expected to be lodged next month.
The station was slated for reopening after it was announced in December 2017 but it remains closed.
The presence of asbestos in Bawnboy Garda Station had led to delays to works ahead of its reopening.
It was one of six rural stations that would be part of a pilot programme for reopening.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee said in September that refurbishment works were needed before it could reopen and it was "not possible to provide a timeline".
Local TD Niamh Smyth has now been told that the OPW has undertaken technical surveys on the building and issued a report on the works required, indicative costs involved and proposed layout to Garda Estate Management.
They also completed enabling works and the removal of asbestos material in October.
The OPW and Gardaí have now finalised the layout; which includes the previous Married Quarters accommodation to be incorporated and function as part of the station.
The necessary Part 9 planning application is set to be submitted and published by December, and the tender documents are being prepared for the procurement of works required to re-open the station.
