A plan to populate crayfish in a lake on the Fermanagh-Monaghan border has been halted because of issues with water quality.
The CANN Project, which is works to protect the cross-border environment was working to make the Magheraveely/Kilrooskey lake cluster a population hotspot.
However, in recent years the lakes have lost their clarity and now show signs of pollution and aglae bloom.
Drainage from farmland is thought to be one of the contributing factors.
Dr Joerg Arnscheidt, a senior environmental lecturer at Ulster University says there is hope the plan will return at a later stage.
