Monaghan County Council this week adopted a plan put forward by the Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection service. The operational plan for 2023 - 2027 highlights how the service intends to resource the fire service at a local level. In addition to this, Monaghan Fire Service is putting a particular emphasis on recruitment.
Chief Fire Officer for Monaghan, Dermot Brannigan, told Northern Sound the service will be recruiting fire fighters in all stations across the county in the coming months. According to Dermot, additional staff will enable more flexible time for local firefighters to be off call and gain a better work/life balance.
"On foot of the WRC agreement that was reached following industrial action during the summer, it has been agreed that we would be recruiting additional firefighters, which would enable more flexible time for firefighters to be off-call and give them a better work/life balance," Mr Brannigan told Northern Sound, "and that has been met with a positive reaction from those who, unfortunately, had to retire due to not being able to provide the committment required before the agreement."
