A Ballyjamesduff pioneer has shared his thoughts on where the organisation stands in today's society. Matt Boylan is the current President of the Pioneers Association.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, the Cavan man revealed that through the 40s, 50 and 60s, the pioneer's organisation was just as big as the GAA.
Despite this, the catholic based organisation has witnessed many changes over the years. According to Mr Boylan as time moves on, both religion and people's attitudes continue to change.
With the organisation now running on a voluntary basis, Mr Boylan revealed that certain sections of the country still have pockets of younger members joining.
"Certainly at the present time there are more older people in groups and that number has dwindled to a certain degree," explained Mr Boylan. "However, I'm very happy to report that certain sections in the country have excellent people working through schools and we have little pockets of younger members joining which is wonderful to see."
