A local councillor and teacher believes the introduction of phone pouches is having a positive effect on students.
It was announced in Budget 2025 that €9 million is to be provided to fund efforts to keep students off their phones during the school day, including the provision of secure pouches to store the devices in.
The phone pouches are magnetically sealed and can only be unlocked by a teacher or staff member.
St Mogue's College in Bawnboy was one of the first schools to introduce the technology locally. Aine Smith is a teacher in the school and also a county councillor.
Speaking on the Wider View, she says she's noticed an increase in attention spans since pouches were introduced.
