Taoiseach Simon Harris and Tánaiste Micheál Martin, alongside Waterways Ireland, will officially open Phase 2 of the Ulster Canal redevelopment project following a €28.4 million investment today in Clones at 12.45pm. The redevelopment project was carried out by Waterways Ireland and saw the complete restoration of 1.5km of the Ulster Canal from Clones to Clonfad.
The project involved the development of a new marina, two new access bridges, repairs to an existing arch bridge, and a sustainable water supply. It will also include approximately 1km of restored canal and towpath, with a looped walk and an amenity area on the route of the 180-year-old Ulster Canal in Clones. According to Minister Heather Humphreys this will be a "momentous day" for the local community in Clones, with locals encouraged to come along today to see the new Marina in action.
