Planning permission has been granted to upgrade the Shercock Wasterwater Treatment Plant.
The development will see the construction of a new storm water holding tank, alongside a new internal cleaning system.
The "primary objective" of the project is to "improve compliance, maintain capacity, and prolong the operational life of the existing plant".
Irish Water says these improvements will "enhance the level of treatment to the wastewater within the Shercock catchment area" before its discharge to Lough Sillan.
The works will also include the construction of new sludge holding tank and a kiosk to house the electrical switchgear, as well as the demolition of existing sludge drying beds.
