A Cavan councillor says constituents are phoning politicians "begging" for emergency hospital treatment.
Sarah O'Reilly recently passed a motion at a County Council meeting calling on the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly to "recognise the crisis that is happening in our hospitals" and to "take urgent action in reducing eight-hour waiting times in Emergency Departments".
Councillor O'Reilly says "hospitals are on their knees" and she has heard reports of people "presenting as extremely ill at EDs and being told that they will have to wait up to eight hours".
The Aontú Councillor told Northern Sound that this is "totally unacceptable" and added there is the "worrying prospect of the Navan ED closing its doors and putting additional pressure on services in Cavan":
