People in the Swanlinbar catchment area are "adamant and anxious" to have a five-day locum GP service.
The residents of Swanlinbar would ideally like to see a full-time GP take up post in the area but, for now, they want to see the current four-day locum service increased to five. That's according to Brendan Smith TD who said he has been talking with people from the wider Swanlinbar area and taken from them their "strong message" for a locum five-day doctor service pending the appointment of a permanent GP.
He raised the issue in the Dáil when he was told the Minister for Health is "aware of the specific issue" and that the "department and the HSE are very anxious to make progress there". Brendan Smith says he fully understands local residents' frustrations.
