On National Slow Down Day people in the region are being reminded that rural roads saw the most fatalities in 2020.
The 24-hour road safety campaign began at 7am and saw more than 37,000 vehicles checked within the first two hours and a total of 43 speeding offences in that time.
Local Sergeant in Monaghan, Niall Leech says that this is part of a weekend long campaign to encourage safer driving practises and people can expect a higher visibility of Gardaí on our local roads in the coming hours and days.
