Local people are concerned and fearful around immigration according to one local councillor.
Carmel Brady who is also a Fine Gael candidate in the upcoming General Election in Cavan/Monaghan believes fake news is fuelling those fears. She said Ireland is such a caring country and Cllr Brady hopes we never lose that.
The election hopeful says her party will get tough on people that have no business being in the country. Fine Gael says they will commit to the introduction of a contribution model for asylum seekers if re-elected to government. This will mean international protection applicants will pay a weekly charge for services.
The Cavan councillor says Ireland is a compassionate country. But we need to adopt a common sense approach.
