The pedestrianisation of Cavan town centre will be trialled for the last two weekends of the month.
Main Street will be partially pedestrianised as part of an effort create a welcoming atmosphere in the county town.
The "Streets Ahead Cavan" scheme will see two sections of Main Street closed to cars in the evenings of the last weekends of July.
From 7pm to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 3pm to 9pm on Sundays, the stretches from the Thomas Ashe Street junction to the Town Hall Street junction, and from the top of Bridge Street to the bottom of Fairgreen Hill will be pedestrian-friendly zones.
Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Tommy Ryan says it was developed in consultation with local businesses and will help lead the way in building confidence in the town centre.
On-street entertainment has also been organised to create a "welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere".
A number of ticket-only live events are also planned for the Abbey grounds in August and will be streamed through the town PA system to allow people to hear the concerts without congregating.
The pilot programme scheme will run in tandem with the Government's plan for re-opening and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, with the council saying safety of the public will be paramount at all times.
