The first funding calls under Peace Plus will open for applications before the end of 2022. That's according to Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Brendan Smith, who says Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Micheal McGrath confirmed the move to him last week.
The cross-border programme has a total funding package of some €1.1bn and is available to community groups and statutory agencies. Deputy Smith said work is now taking place to finalise the Financing Agreement between the EU, the UK and Ireland.
He added these steps would ensure that Peace Plus can open for funding applications "at the earliest possible stage".
