Pauline Tully says she's determined that her life won't change following the release of her ex-husband Pearse McAuley from prison.
McAuley was jailed for stabbing Ms Tully thirteen times at her Cavan home on Christmas Eve 2014.
In 2015, Pearse McAuley was sentenced to twelve years in prison for the attack, with the final four suspended.
This morning, he was released from Castlerea prison after serving seven years behind bars.
McAuley has previously been jailed for his involvement in a botched robbery in which Detective Garda Jerry McCabe was shot dead.
Speaking to Northern Sound News today, Deputy Tully said she was aware of his release date for a number of months so the news this morning came as no surprise.
She added that she was determined that her life won't change as a result and that her and her two sons will "just get on with life".
The Cavan-Monaghan TD said she's "presuming that he will adhere to the barring order that is in place and keep his distance".
