This week marked the 55th anniversary since the death of Monaghan poet Patrick Kavanagh who passed away on November 30th, 1967.
A native of the rural village of Inniskeen, Kavanagh's love for his native Monaghan and rural landscape is just some of the themes within his work which makes him as popular now for readers as he was all those years ago.
The Patrick Kavanagh Centre was opened back in 1994 and ran on a voluntary basis.
Since then, Darren McCreesh revealed that the centre has gone from strength to strength, with Monaghan County Council investing over 1 million euro and installing a world-class exhibition.
He added that numbers visiting the centre particularly since Failte Ireland's staycation drive has been overwhelming.
