The Part VIII planning application has been approved for €3 million Traffic Calming and Paving Scheme for Virginia.
A proposal for the scheme was put forward by Cavan County Council in June and would see improved pedestrian safety, including the upgrading of the existing T-junction on New Street and the Ballyjamesduff Road, and street and public realm improvements along Virginia Main Street.
Car parking in the town will be increased as part of the plan from 121 to 188, and while a contractor is expected by early next year, it is hoped this part of the project will be completed by next January or February.
