Both information events will be held in the Monaghan Education Centre on Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, 24th.

Parents of children with special needs in Monaghan who will require a special school place are invited to express their interest at two specially-organised information days. The National Council for Special Education are hosting the events this month, on the back of the announcement that Monaghan is to get its own special school with an opening date of September 2025. NCSE want to hear from anyone whose child may need a place in the special school for the 26/27 or 27/28 academic years.

While parents will get advice on the reports they will need to have completed for their child before being considered for a special school pace, meeting parents will also give NCSE an idea about the demand for places before the new school is developed. Special Education Needs Organisers, or SENOs, will be on hand to offer parents advice and information.

Both information events will be held in the Monaghan Education Centre on Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, 24th. Paddy McAloon is chairperson of the Special Needs Active Parents group which supports local parents of children with additional needs. Speaking on the Wider View earlier, Paddy encourages anyone who thinks their child will qualify for a place in the special school to go along to the information days.
