The allocation of funding for local greenway projects will allow for a feasibility study to look at connecting the Cavan Town Greenway and the Ulster Canal
Minister Eamon Ryan announced over €4 million for 26 projects across the country yesterday, with almost €1.3 million being allocated for greenway projects in the Shannonside Northern Sound region.
At a recent meeting of the Cavan Belturbet MD they welcomed the money stating that the continued development of new walkways and trails will enhance tourism and create employment in the county.
Prior to lockdown there had been plans to officially launch the Kileshandra-Killykeen trail, which is close to the new tourist attraction Cabu, as well as the Cavan Town greenway which is nearing completion and runs from Cavan General Hospital to Loreto Road.
It was agreed amongst members that this investment was timely and that it was an acknowledgement of the local authority’s ability to deliver.
