An event aimed at showing solidarity with Palestine is planned for Cavan town this afternoon.
Today's gathering, follows on from a similar event last month, when several hundred local people gathered in Cavan to express their solidarity for those caught up in the Israel / Gaza conflict. The Cavan assembly is part of an international day of solidarity for Palestine, and is one of many other events held nationwide today.
Anyone interested in attending is asked to go along to Cavan Town Square for 4:30pm today. One of the organisers, Seán O'Raghallaigh, says now is an important time in the ongoing Gaza situation for people here to show their support:
"I think it's very important at the moment," Mr O'Raghallaigh told Northern Sound, "especially with the pause in effect in Gaza at the moment. A pause is not enough. It's just a postponement. less than 100 aid trucks a day are getting into an area with a population of two and a half million. All people are doing there is waiting. It's not life. And there's no pause for refugees."
