Retailers are being asked to pass back two cent per egg immediately to be ring-fenced for producers to help alleviate the cost pressure on farms.
IFA held an emergency meeting of egg producers in Cavan this earlier week as pressure continues to mount.
As a result, IFA National Poultry chairman, Nigel Sweetman says producers are now weighing up whether they should place orders for another flock of pullets or not.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he highlighted the need for immediate action to ensure the survival of the egg sector.
