A local TD believes there is an over reliance on the private sector when it comes to housing asylum seekers across the country.
Sinn Fein's Pauline Tully says we need to see a fair, efficient and fast approach when comes to people here seeking asylum.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, the Cavan Monaghan TD said that if people come here and haven't a right to asylum they need to relocated back to the country where they come from. She says the over reliance on the private sector for accommodation has been a 'disaster', pointing out that this has been evident across Cavan and Monaghan.
This follows Sinn Fein calling earlier this week for a local audit of resources to be carried out before new locations are chosen. The party says this would examine criteria including GP lists and school places, proximity to transport and existing levels of disadvantage Deputy Tully says a lot of these areas are not suitable due to a lack of resources in the community.
