Over €8 million was spent on resealing local roads in the Shannonside Northern Sound region last year. Sealing roads helps to restore grip and texture while creating a waterproof surface to make driving safer.
The latest figures from the National Oversight and Audit Commission show that over 440 kilometres of local roads underwent resealing works during that period. The Local Authority Performance Indicator report shows that over €8.2 million was spent across Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim in 2022.
Roscommon County Council were the biggest spenders with over €2.9 million on 162 kilometres of road surface. The Cavan local authority resealed 78 kilometres to the tune of almost €1.6 million, while Monaghan County Council invested over €1.5 million on 74 kilometres.
Meanwhile, Leitrim spent over €1.4 million on 77 kilometres, and over 63 kilometres of local road surfaces were resealed in Longford at a cost of €1.1 million.
Nationally, a sum of over €67 million was spent resealing over 2,800 kilometres of road surface by local authorities.
