€30,410 has been awarded by Inland Fisheries Ireland under the Salmon and Sea Trout Rehabilitation, Conservation and Protection Fund for instream and riverbank restoration works and materials on the River Fane at Magowney and Inniskeen in Co Monaghan.
The funding will also be used at a number of other sites in Co Louth to improve existing salmon habitat and increase the productivity of the river for salmon and sea trout stocks.
Over €1m in total has been allocated to 34 projects around the country including €35,000 to Cavan; €90,000 in Donegal; and €224,000 to Co Meath.
Suzanne Campion, Head of Business Development with Inland Fisheries Ireland said that Conservation and protection were at the heart of the work done by the organisation.
She added the Habitats and Conservation Scheme is made possible through fishing licence income and promotes groups all over the country to work on projects and measures that benefit the conservation of salmon, sea trout and their freshwater habitats.
