€1.1m in funding has been announced for primary and special schools across Cavan and Monaghan. Some €600,000 has been allocated for schools in Cavan, while there is €500,000 earmarked for Co Monaghan schools.
A total of €29m has been allocated for schools nationwide by the Minister for Education, Norma Foley for maintenance and small-scale improvements to school buildings and grounds. Welcoming this announcement, Deputy Brendan Smith said he and his party colleagues understand that such grants are a vital resource in terms of supporting the operation of schools across the country.
The local TD added that this funding provides flexibility to address issues at local school level and may be used for the improvement or replacement of mechanical and electrical services, the purchase of standard furniture and physical education equipment.
"Early payment of these grants will provide schools across Cavan and Monaghan with a good lead in period to plan and undertake works that will support the operation of the school going into the 2023/24 school year," said Deputy Smith.
