Over €130,000 in heritage funding has been allocated to Cavan and Monaghan county councils by Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform for local biodiversity projects, Malcolm Noonan.
In Monaghan, Flora book of County Monaghan has been awarded €46,750 while the Wetland Action Plan receives €34,090; and Survey of Breeding Swifts gets €19,159. In Co Cavan, Cavan Actions from the Cavan Biodiversity Plan has been allocated €10,200; the Cavan Feasibility study for the management of aquatic invasive species receives €10,200; and the Cavan Bat Survey has been awarded €8,500.
Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD, Deputy Brendan Smith, says the funding will enable the local authorities to carry out biodiversity projects through the Local Biodiversity Action Fund (LBAF). He added that the LBAF is an impactful scheme that supports local authorities and communities to deliver on Ireland’s national objectives for nature - from invasive species and habitat restoration to awareness-raising, surveys and monitoring work.
