Over €1.1 million has been allocated to the region under The Streetscape Enhancement Initiative.
The new initiative will offer property owners money to improve the facades of their buildings making rural towns and villages more attractive places.
This Streetscape Enhancement Measure will be administered by Local Authorities who will be requested to nominate at least two towns per county to participate.
Each county has been divided into a funding category based on the number of towns and villages they have.
Locally, Cavan will receive the highest amount in the region at €260,000.
While Longford, Leitrim, Roscommon, and Monaghan will each receive €220,000.
Announcing today's funding local Minister Heather Humphreys said that 'Outdoor Dining is here to stay' and this will only be a positive for towns and villages across the country.
The types of projects that will be considered across the region include painting buildings or shopfronts in vibrant colours, the commissioning of murals in towns and villages, and the provision of street planting, shrubbery, trees and flowers boxes.
The hope is that rural towns and villages become more appealing places for families to live, work and visit.
