Over 900 claims have been made in Cavan and Monaghan for the Help to Buy Scheme to date. Of those, 488 of those are in Monaghan and 453 in Cavan.
The Help to Buy Scheme helps first-time buyers purchase a newly-built house or apartment and applies to properties which cost 500-thousand euro or less. It gives a refund of the Income and DIRT taxes a person paid in the four years before applying.
According to figures provided by Minister for Finance, Michael McGrath, 941 claims have been made to the scheme locally. The average claim amount in Monaghan is €19,500, while in Cavan, it's €19,700.
