There were more than 3,600 unpaid carers in Monaghan and 4,600 in Cavan in April 2022. Both figures represent 6 % of the population of the respective counties, compared to 4% in 2016. That's according to information released from the CSO.
Females in both counties were more likely to be carers than males, with 60% of all carers being female, a similar trend to the national figure. In Cavan, there were 2,764 female carers, compared with 1,869 male carers. In Monaghan, There were 2,194 female carers compared with 1,491 male carers.
