Just over 50 children are being home schooled in the Cavan Monaghan region.
This is according to data released by Tulsa which also indicates that the number of children in Ireland in alternative education - including home schooling - has risen by 30% over the last four years.
The highest figures were in the main urban centres with 255 children registered in Dublin, 217 in Cork and 116 in Galway.
Meanwhile Cavan and Monaghan are among a number of counties with the lowest figures.
There are currently 28 children in Cavan and 25 in Monaghan receiving alternative education.
Tulsa says the increase has coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic.
A Tulsa spokesman said that if a parent choses an option for their child other than attending a recognised school, the parent is obliged to apply to Tulsa for registration.
“Upon successful completion of an assessment, the child’s name can be placed on the statutory register of children educated outside of recognised school,” he added.
