More than 30 motorists have been fined and hit with penalty points for a number of road traffic offences in Cavan.
Of the thousands of cars checked over a 12 hour period on the N3, four drivers were arrested for drug driving.
Local Gardai confirmed a total of 1,000 cars were stopped and checked on Saturday, resulting in a series of penalties being handed out. Of the thousands of cars checked, four drivers were arrested for drug driving and one vehicle was also seized as a consequence.
Over 30 fines were issued for various offences of speeding, mobile phone use, non- wearing of seat belts, defective tyres, no NCT, no tax and learner permit drivers not displaying plates. Gardaí in Co Cavan are encouraging motorists to "slow down" in order to "arrive alive" when travelling.
