1,119 students in Co Cavan and 894 students in Monaghan will finally receive their Junior Cert results today. More than 67,000 students nationally sat the exams last June.
They come two months later than usual, as the State Examinations Commission grappled with a shortage of examiners this year and delays to the Leaving Cert. The results have been sent to schools around the country, with the grades also available online from 4 o'clock this afternoon.
Education Minister Norma Foley paid tribute to both the students and staff involved in the process. "I really do want to congratulate the students. It's a great achievement and they have come through a significant State exam.
"This is a very positive and good day for them. I want to acknowledge the support that is being provided by parents and families and school staff who have ensured that the students arrived at this successful day today," she added.
