More than 200 people have been referred to the Cavan and Monaghan Drugs and Alcohol service so far this year.
The figures relating to the period between January and August were revealed at the recent Cavan Joint Policing Committee.
The overwhelming majority of referrals were from Co Cavan, with 152, while there were 55 referrals from Co Monaghan.
Close to 40% of people self-referred, and just under 60% of referrals were alcohol-related.
Fianna Fáil councillor John Paul Feeley said the figures were a reminder that "alcohol is still the biggest problem" and urged people not the "brush this fact under the rug".
