A new report shows there were 23 adults were accessing emergency accommodation in Cavan and Monaghan towards the end of February. There were nearly 10,000 adults in emergency accommodation across the country in February, along with nearly 4,200 children.
It is the highest number of children who have been recorded as being in emergency accommodation since records began. The last highest to this point was 4,105 in November 2023. Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien said efforts to take people out of homelessness is the number one challenge for Government. He said the reasons for people becoming homeless are often complex, but the only long-term solution to this issue is to increase housing supply.
