The State Examinations for Leaving and Junior Certificate students got underway across Cavan and Monaghan today. Local Leaving Cert and Junior Cert students turned over English Paper 1 at 9.30 this morning. A total of 1,185 sat their Junior Cert in Co Cavan, while 999 students sat their Junior Cert in Co Monaghan.
1,671 students from across the Northern Sound region sat their leaving cert today, while 161 students from across the region sat their Leaving Cert Applied exams. The majority of this years Leaving Cert students would've been in second year when they entered hybrid learning due to the pandemic.
The Teachers Union of Ireland President, David Waters, says the students have already overcome lots of challenges; "For this particular cohort they are one of the Covid years. We don't give students enough credit for how resilient they can be. They've overcome quite a stressful period already, they have that in their back pocket and they should remember that."
