Deputy Brendan Smith has welcomed the allocation of government funding towards the enhancement of outdoor swimming facilities across both Cavan and Monaghan. The funding will go towards facilities at Arva, Lough Gowna, Killeshandra, Barnagrow, Virginia and at Emy Lough - Monaghan. €30,000 has been approved for the projects at Killeshandra, Arva, Barnagrow and Virginia; €28,000 at Lough Gowna and €15,000 at Emy Lough.
In a statement issued to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith said; "These successful projects provide for enhancement works including changing/showering facilities, accessibility mats, access hand rails and demarcation buoys. This initiative which was developed in line with the Healthy Ireland objective of enabling more people to be more active is funded by the Department of Health and administered by Sport Ireland.
"I compliment our Local Sports Partnership, our local authorities and the various voluntary swimming groups on their submission of successful applications. The work of these outdoor swimming groups is to be commended in providing this important sporting opportunity for local communities. Minister Stephen Donnelly has provided over recent years much needed funding to support the work of Healthy Ireland and local Sports Partnerships."
