Outcomers are launching their services for adult members of the LGBT community in Cavan from next week. Spearheaded by Community Outreach Worker Paul Bardin, the focus is on "older members" of the community. The service covers the north east - Louth, Meath Cavan and Monaghan - however this service will deliver in the latter two counties "first".
The service will offer "more peer to peer support" with their first meeting taking place on Monday, November 11th. Speaking to Northern Sound, Paul Bardin said these meetings offer an opportunity for people to "open up" and "be themselves." The first LGBT+ adult meeting is on Monday in Teach Oscail, Church Street, Cavan from 6-8pm. Contact Outcomers Outreach on 085 139 3028 for more information.
Paul explained; "Members of the LGBT community are not represented enough within the community or we don't have enough spaces where we can go and just be ourselves without looking over our shoulder or wondering whose looking, watching or talking in the way that a heterosexual couple can meet up in a bar, restaurant or meet with the lads in the pub. This is just a different space where adults can meet up for a chat and a cup of coffee. It might not necessarily be LGBT talk but the one thing we have in common is that we are all members of the LGBT community."
