There's optimism that cross-border biodiversity projects will be supported through the Shared Island Initiative.
Earlier this year, Monaghan County Council's Heritage Officer, Shirley Clerkin, was part of a consultation on the environment and climate aspects of the initiative, and put a question to the Taoiseach directly yesterday as he launched the Government's next phase of the project.
Among her suggestions to make the final document was the development of a nature restoration network in the bogland that sits along the border.
Shirley told Shannonside Northern Sound that she's confident her contributions are being taken on-board.
