There has been a lot of opposition locally to the findings of a report to suggest that The North South Interconnector is going ahead.
The North South Interconnector is set to proceed as planned with a 400 kV overhead line across counties Cavan, Monaghan, Armagh, Meath and Tyrone.
The company says the connector is "critical" for the security of electricity supply across the island of Ireland which will support social and economic growth in the Northeast region and also enable Ireland to reach its renewable energy targets.
Local councillors have been reacting with fury to these latest developments with many highlighting the fact that Eirgrid will face total opposition to the project that involves over grounding.
The North South Interconnector construction will see 409 pylons, up to 51 metres high, caring 400,000 volts through Meath, Cavan and Monaghan, Armagh and Tyrone.
Cllr Paudge Connolly says there is no engagement with Eirgrid and he is pleading with to engage with local representatives as a matter of urgency.
Meanwhile, Cllr Sarah O'Reilly said that if the project was being undergrounded, it would be welcomed locally and she says she is not surprised by todays findings.
